Here are my top 5 super simple tips for increasing your protein intake and creating a plan that works for you:
If you’ve found yourself struggling to hit your protein intake day-to-day, you aren’t alone! Research shows that most people are under-consuming the protein needed for their body and goals.
The common problems seen are ππ»over complicating the basics, trying to make too many diet changes at once, organisation skills and feeling lost amongst all the information shared online. Luckily, I’m here to show you that creating a plan is much simpler than you’re lead to believe!
Here are my top 5 super simple tips for increasing your protein intake and creating a plan that works for you:
ππ» 1. Increase your current protein amounts. For example; if you currently eat 100g of chicken breast at dinner, increase to 150g.
ππ» 2. Introduce leaner cuts of meat. For example; if you only eat chicken thigh, beef mince or silken tofu, try swapping a few meals to chicken breast, Turkey mince and firm tofu.
ππ» 3. Explore high protein versions of your everyday products. For example; try swapping your usual pasta to a high protein pasta or your usual plain flour to a protein flour .
ππ» 4. Always think “protein first”. For example; when it comes to preparing or ordering lunch, think about the protein source first before the other components of the meal.
ππ» 5. Utilise supplements. Whole foods are the number one priority but if you still struggle to consume enough protein on whole foods alone, supplements are an amazing tool! Try adding protein powder to your morning oats/smoothies/Weetbix bowls or enjoy a protein bar/yogurt pot for your afternoon snack.
And that’s it! No “change/cut out all of the meals you love and enjoy” or “buy and consume these 10 different supplements”. All you need to do to create a sustainable change is make a few simple swaps to your current diet π«Άπ».
To get started, I recommend selecting just ONE of these tips that’s best suited to your lifestyle and feels the easiest for you. Once you actively practise it, it will start to become second nature and a habit will form in no time!
